Automated Test Services

Did you know Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD) goes beyond just traditional maintenance repair and overhaul?  Through the vast Engineering Department on site, TYAD develops Test Program Set(s) (TPS) for use in conjunction with Automated Test Equipment (ATE), which includes all software and hardware required for test solutions across a variety of platforms and Military branches.

TYAD possesses a substantial history – over 45 years – in the development of TPSs, having created more than 580 to date. This capability has generated $10 million in revenue over the past decade, serving a customer base exceeding 15 organizations.

Supporting this work is a dedicated team of 17 qualified Electrical Engineers and Electronics Technicians. These personnel are proficient in a diverse range of TPS Development Platforms and programming languages, as well as Automated Equipment Maintenance and Configuration Management procedures.

ATE allows for efficient, repeatable, and accurate testing of simple and complex subassemblies, and circuit card assemblies that support operational readiness across the Global fleet. The below lists the currently supported ATE suites of equipment, which includes not just TPS development, but hardware integration, testing and deployment services as well!

Next Generation Automatic Test Station (NGATS) (US ARMY)

TYAD is the Depot Source of Repair (DSOR) for the US Army N Next Generation Automatic Test Station (NGATS). The NGATS is Army standardized ATE used to perform functional and diagnostic testing on Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), Shop Replaceable Units (SRUs), and Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs). Tobyhanna has performed TPS Development for the AN/TPQ-53 Radar. Testing capabilities of the NGATS include but are not limited to Digital/Analog Measurement Testing, Electro-Optical Testing (IR, Detector, Laser, Optical systems testing), and RF Testing.

Versatile Diagnostic Automatic Test Station (VDATS) (US AIR FORCE)

The Versatile Diagnostic Automatic Test Station (VDATS) is an Air Force standardized ATE used to perform functional and diagnostic testing on LRU’s, SRU’s, and CCA’s. Tobyhanna has performed TPS Development projects utilizing VDATS for the MQ-9 Reaper, AN/MSQ-T43, and Military Strategic Tactical and Relay System (MILSTAR) programs. Testing capabilities of the VDATS include but are not limited to Digital/Analog Measurement Testing, Serial Communication Testing, and RF Testing.

Drive-In Theatre Manufacturing Company (DIT-MCO)

Did you know TYAD can build, design and develop Drive-in Theatre Manufacturing Company (DIT-MCO) testing program sets? DIT-MCOs are used among a variety of organic and commercial maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities as a staple testing apparatus, but TYAD takes it one step further by designing the software necessary to run a wide variety of tests on this pillar of test equipment for the Defense Department. The DIT-MCO is a high-speed automated wiring analyzer designed for a wide range of testing cable harnesses, chassis, and panels on such systems as the Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT). Testing capabilities include but are not limited to Continuity and open circuit testing, Dielectric breakdown (Hi-POT) testing, Component testing.

Agilent 3070

In the constant pursuit of advanced technology solutions to support Defense Department requirements, TYAD utilizes the Keysight i3070 In-Circuit Test System to conduct Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) testing for every component of CCAs. While this is standard off the shelf test platform, did you know TYAD can develop highly specific and complex test programs sets to conduct a level of testing to identify faults down to the CCA component level? TYAD uses this technology to support the M139 Volcano which TYAD supports for domestic and foreign partners through hardware design, development, fabrication, refurbishment, through physical contact with a probe. With our vast inventory of 3070s on sight, the TYAD Engineering staff is available to discuss how we can support customizing applications, test fixtures and connections for your Keysight i3070 needs today!

Modular Automatic Test Equipment

The Modular Automatic Test Equipment (MATE) is a versatile Air Force standardized ATE, and is capable of functional and diagnostic testing on Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), Shop Replaceable Units (SRUs), and projects such as MILSTAR. Its capabilities include but are not limited to Full Spectrum Digital/Analog/ RF Testing.

Custom ATE

If you are searching for something that is not standardized, TYAD has the capability to design and develop custom ATE. We use Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment to build the ATE, 3D modeling software to design the Interface Test Adapter (ITA), and National Instruments' LabVIEW and TestStand Test Executive to develop the test program. Tobyhanna is experienced and capable of developing a test solution for, but is not limited to Radio Frequency (RF), Modular Test Solutions (PXI), Digital Input/Output.
