Gaudiano, Pope earn Employee of the Quarter recognition

By Ms. Megan Haikes

Over 3,100 individuals make up Tobyhanna Army Depot’s (TYAD) world-class workforce. Although many are worthy of praise, each quarter two employees are named the junior and senior Employees of the Quarter (EoQ). For the first quarter of 2024, Ms. Laura Gaudiano of the Resource Management directorate and Ms. Rebecca Pope of the Field Logistics Support directorate are receiving the honors, respectively.

Gaudiano’s career at Tobyhanna began in 2006 as a division secretary before moving on to a position as management assistant. When the opportunity became available to join the Employee Development Division, however, Gaudiano saw the potential for growth and has remained there for 12 years.

Lauded by her supervisor and fellow teammates for her positive customer service skills, Gaudiano assisted 57 employees and customers acquire tuition assistance totaling 153 courses during the 1st quarter of 2024. All assists were completed without complaint by her or against her.

Gaudiano said that customer service is the most rewarding aspect to her position.

“Definitely the customer service aspect first and foremost is most rewarding,” she said. “I like to think that I help TYAD’s reputation for valuing the customer and the customer experience working with TYAD employees as well as outside vendors and colleges.”

For six years, Gaudiano administered the Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) training which teaches depot employees the basics of how electrostatic charges build up, discharge, and potentially damage sensitive electronic equipment. Her experience with ESD aided in her tasks when the time arrived to reconfigure the training for January 2024, resulting in the ability to offer the course through the Total Employee Development database for employee trainings.

Gaudiano’s nominating supervisor, Mr. Edward Kraftchisin, highlighted her contributions to the team as it worked toward improving the training process.

“Laura engaged in project meetings leading up to the change and asked questions, elevated concerns, disagreed, shared knowledge, and participated in problem solving,” said Kraftchisin.

Understanding the significance of being named an EoQ, Gaudiano also credits her teammates for her success.

“To be recognized for my efforts, dedication, and hard work makes me feel validated and appreciated,” Gaudiano said of her EoQ honor. “I receive so much support from my colleagues and supervisor. Their efforts in providing a good working environment and helping me succeed should not go unrecognized.”

Ms. Rebecca Pope began her career at Tobyhanna in January 2020 in the Production Management Directorate as a production controller. She then joined the Regional Support Center (RSC) Management Division within the Field Logistics Support (FLS) Directorate in 2022 as a logistics management specialist. In this position, Pope uses her background in accounting to tackle billing issues that arise in the division. She worked with U.S. Army’s Communication-Electronics Command (CECOM) G8 to resolve issues with obligations on purchase requests prior to having permissions in General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS). Having since received the full access to the application, Pope can now assist customers more efficiently when issues arise.

In addition to her daily duties, Pope took the task of solving a lingering large sum billing issue for a contracting organization. The goal was to resolve the issue prior to the close of the fiscal year.

“The issue became significant and needed a resolution quickly,” said Pope. “Once we found the many components of the issues, we were able to develop a process to work with customers to correct the current issue and prevent issues in the future.”

Her nominating supervisor, Mr. Robert Martin, praised Pope’s value as a government employee.

“Ms. Pope has outstanding organizational and communication skills, abilities, initiative, and a relentless pursuit of tackling RSC budgetary issues. There isn’t a day that passes in which someone from the team does not reach out for RSC financial assistance,” said Martin. “No matter how deeply involved, Ms. Pope will stop and assist you.”

“Receiving Employee of the Quarter is truly an honor knowing how important this award is. It feels great to receive the recognition for the hard work and dedication that I put into my position,” said Pope. “Personally, I want to be the best that I can be all around, and I want my family and children to see that hard work and determination pays off.”

The Employee of the Quarter awards and other employee recognition programs align with Tobyhanna's long-range strategic plan, TOBY2035 - specifically the Investing In Our People line of effort. The plan aims to posture the depot for success in the coming years as the Department of Defense's premier worldwide C5ISR readiness provider.
