Tobyhanna Army Depot honors local Soldier as Warfighter of the Quarter | Article | The United States Army
One of northeastern Pennsylvania’s most dedicated Soldiers was honored Saturday night as Tobyhanna Army Depot’s newest Warfighter of the Quarter.
Staff Sergeant (SSG) Jason Warner of the 345th Military Police Company in Ashley was recognized as the Warfighter of the Quarter for the second quarter of 2022 during a ceremony at the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders Armed Forces Appreciation Day on May 28. The award, which celebrates the bond between TYAD’s employees and the warfighters they support, has been presented to more than 35 deserving military members from across northeastern Pennsylvania.
Warner was nominated for the accolade by his commanding officer, Lieutenant Steven Servano, who said the SSG provides outstanding support to his unit – and the region.
“Throughout SSG Warner’s career, he has consistently been an excellent leader and a superb role model for his fellow servicemembers. Just one example is his broad expertise in military vehicles, which allowed our unit to increase mission success and readiness across the board,” Servano said. “He also works tirelessly to bridge the gap between the military, law enforcement and the public.”
Warner says community involvement is a top priority for him.
“Even as a child, I enjoyed volunteering in my community. I take great pride in helping make northeastern Pennsylvania a better place through a variety of service initiatives,” adding he particularly appreciates the opportunity to participate in military funerals.
“Having done more than 350 military funerals, I can tell you there is something special about honoring the brave warfighters that came before me – especially because I come from a long line of military members,” he said.
In addition to his service as an Army Reservist, Warner is an Army civilian at Tobyhanna Army Depot, where he supports base operations missions in the Installation Services Directorate. He says receiving the honor makes the effort all worthwhile.
“It is truly heartwarming to be recognized as the Warfighter of the Quarter. Serving in the military has allowed me to participate in a brotherhood and being nominated by them for this honor makes it even more special.”
Warner retires from the military this month after 21 years of distinguished service. He deployed four times to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. SSG Warner is also a highly decorated Soldier; his many honors include (but are not limited to) the five Army Commendation Medals; the National Defense Service Medal; the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; and the Meritorious Unit Citation while deployed with the 372nd Military Police Company for their actions in Afghanistan. While SSG Warner was deployed in Iraq, he was also awarded the Combat Action Badge for his heroic efforts against the enemy. Warner received the Army Drivers Badge with wheeled vehicle bar for his expertise, knowledge, and operations of multiple government vehicles, requiring him to drive at least 10,000 miles per year.
The Warfighter of the Quarter award is a TOBY2028 Connecting with the Community initiative. The long-range strategic plan aligns with the depot's four strategic focus areas: Investing in Our People, C5ISR Readiness, Shape the Future and Strategic Communications; and aims to posture the organization to meet future force requirements.
