Tobyhanna modernizes Army command centers

By Ms. Danielle Weinschenk

Tobyhanna Army Depot employees continue to play a key role in efforts to connect soldiers in the field to their leadership back home.

The depot's employees are supporting the installation and modernization of Home Station Mission Command Centers (HSMCCs) across the world. The HSMCCs consist of a joint operations mission center and five networked conference rooms.

Bob Olshefski, chief of the depot's electrical cable branch, described the HSMCCs as "mini situation rooms," adding that his diverse teams install state-of-the-art teleconferencing equipment to include projectors, video monitors, microphones, speakers, and communication cabling.

"This mission gives us the opportunity to directly support the local and global Warfighter by making sure they can communicate in real-time with their commanders," he said. "The work is challenging, which helps my team gain new skills to support readiness across the world."

The team's next installation will support the Indiana National Guard. Previous sites supported by depot employees include Pennsylvania Army National Guard's 28th Infantry Division; the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carlson, Colorado; and the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
