Top performers stand out among peers

By Ms. Jacqueline Boucher

Award winners maintain everyday events are what inspires them to do great things.

Information Technology (IT) Specialist Carly DeAntonio and Senior Electronics Engineer Mark Sgobba were named the Tobyhanna Army Depot Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2019, junior and senior categories, respectively.

Coworkers and senior leaders boast DeAntonio as a leader in customer satisfaction and ticket completions for the Installation Services Directorate's Customer Service Branch. Her customer support skills and work ethic have resulted in a 96 percent on-time completion rate for more than 250 service desk tickets.

"Customer comments overwhelmingly praise her rapid response, technical skill and professionalism," said Gregory Hertzog, lead IT specialist in the branch. "She provides self-help tips and walks customers through the problem resolution."

DeAntonio spends her days helping members of the depot workforce solve computer and printer issues. She executes corrective action, installs software and shares her knowledge of IT with customers to increase productivity.

"To receive an award for what I enjoy doing is a win-win for me," DeAntonio said. "I'm thankful others appreciate and recognize my hard work so much that they would nominate me for such an award."

Experiences during her nine-year career have resulted in a robust resume that includes skills acquired managing the depot's mailroom, operating the switchboard, and issuing military identification and common access cards while serving as a site security manager. Since becoming an IT specialist, DeAntonio has added troubleshooting numerous issues with personnel computers and printers to her long list of skills and abilities.

"I'm proud of how far I've come," DeAntonio said, adding that her independent nature drives her to succeed. "My experiences have taught me that kindness goes a long way. It effectively changes the moods of people and boosts morale."

Sgobba joined Team Tobyhanna following a wide-ranging career in the private sector working for defense/aerospace, consumer electronics and manufacturing companies. He is assigned to the Production Engineering Directorate's Mission Support Division.

"Mark leads by example with his work ethic and dedication to Tobyhanna and its customers," said Matthew Rhoades, Test Engineering Branch chief. "He is always willing to take on extra duties and takes the lead of projects and tasks."

Sgobba's efforts benefit the entire organization by mentoring, developing new technology and shaping the future of Tobyhanna's engineering capabilities, according to Rhoades.

Most recently, Sgobba helped develop capability to support the new M139 Volcano Mine Dispensing System test and repair work at the depot. The mine system, which was built in the 1980s and '90s, is a mas scatterable mine delivery system.

"I am honored to receive this award," Sgobba said, attributing his success to being surrounded by opportunities and talented people. "I try to learn something new every day and use the knowledge to make improvements."

Recognizing employees for a job well done is directly linked to one of the Toby 2028 objectives -- Invest in our People. The objective centers on developing an agile and innovative workforce dedicated to providing the best value to the warfighter. The quarterly awards program identifies and rewards junior-, senior- and supervisor-level employees who, in the performance of their assigned duties, have established a pattern of excellence. Nominations may be submitted by co-workers, who work with the nominee, directly or indirectly, with a minimum of at least four nominators or by an employee's supervisor.
