Tobyhanna Army Depot, PA –
A senior leader relies on the wisdom and expertise of his team to lead a critical component of the Army’s Organic Industrial Base operations.
Patrick Esposito was named Tobyhanna Army Depot, then the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) Supervisor of the Quarter for the second quarter. He is the director of Tobyhanna Army Depot’s Production Management (PM) Directorate. His responsibilities include planning, monitoring and controlling work performed at the depot.
Esposito describes the directorate as a multi-faceted organization where employees are responsible for managing all communications-electronics systems by costs, schedule and quality, and ensuring all the material is there when needed. He acknowledges the success of the organization lies with the personnel who support the mission.
“What drives me is the energy I receive from our people,” Esposito said. “They are motivated, smart and understand what is needed to achieve our goals on a daily basis. They go above and beyond what we ask of them.”
Co-workers commend Esposito for his ability to move the business forward by providing clear direction to the production management team. Nicholas Caprioli and Keith Hoffman, directorate deputy directors, attribute the director’s talent for active engagement, using multiple methods, to developing positive customer relationships.
Employees thrive in an environment that encourages them to earn or maintain professional credentials, according to Caprioli. Esposito’s a champion for continued professional development to include Project Management Professional and APICS, The Association for Operations Management certifications, various developmental training courses and developmental activities through the Department of the Army, he added.
“The success of Tobyhanna’s Performance to Promise (P2P) program is directly attributed to Pat’s efforts and reviews with his peers, both internal and external to the depot,” Hoffman said. “He provides the necessary support for the team to explore new and better ways to accomplish the mission.”
Caprioli remarked that Esposito continuously mentors within the directorate and across the depot.
“Pat is a voice of counsel to our partners for strategic guidance regarding depot maintenance and execution,” Caprioli said. “He leads from the front to improve the process and actively encourage other supervisors and employees to participate in driving the business forward.”
Esposito applies 35 years of experience to inspire and motivate not only his employees, but his peer group, and up and coming leaders throughout the depot. He believes communication is the key to surviving in this fast-paced business.
“I try to take the time to listen, to motivate, and develop myself and our employees,” Esposito said. “Amazingly, as long as I’ve been here I am still leaning the business, it is a very complex system.”
The supervisor of the quarter award identifies and rewards senior-level employees and leaders, who in the performance of their assigned duties, have established a pattern of excellence for the period during which the nominations are being solicited. The nominations may be submitted by co-workers, who worked with the nominee, directly or indirectly, with a minimum of at least four nominators or by an employee's supervisor.
Winners will receive a special parking space for the quarter, a $500 On-The-Spot Award and a plaque. Winning packages are automatically forwarded to CECOM to compete in their respective categories. The C4ISR quarterly award winners receive the Department of the Army (DA) Achievement Medal for Civilian Service and CECOM quarterly award winners receive a DA Certificate of Achievement as well as their name on a Perpetual Plaque.
