Q: How do I look for jobs at Tobyhanna?

A:   To see the current list of Tobyhanna Army Depot’s (TYAD’s) vacancies go to www.tobyhanna.army.mil click on “ABOUT” then select “Career Opportunities” http://www.tobyhanna.army.mil/about/career.htmlAll open announcements are listed as well as information on How to Apply, Veteran’s Information, the Army Job Application Kit and the link to CPOL Resumix.  All resumes/applications must be submitted online using the Civilian Personnel On-Line (CPOL) at www.cpol.army.mil.    

Note:  There are exceptions where an applicant may be eligible to submit their application directly to TYAD.  Please see below for the list of exceptions.  Also, this does not include the Non-appropriated Fund Instrumentality (NAFI), which consists of positions at the Post Restaurant, the Family Services Division, and the Community Recreation Division at TYAD.  Job opportunities and application materials for NAFI positions can be found at www.tobyhanna.army.mil(TOP)


Q:  What are the exceptions that allow an applicant to apply directly to Tobyhanna?

Only the following candidates may submit an application directly to Tobyhanna Army Depot (TYAD).  These applications are maintained in our Applicant Supply File (ASF) for 2 years from the date you sign your application.  It is suggested you apply online as well as submitting an application directly to TYAD. 

1. Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA) candidates: Under the law the following veterans are eligible as long as they received an Honorable Discharge from their branch of service:

Disabled Veterans; or Veterans who have been awarded a Campaign Badge, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (AFEM), or Armed Forces Service Medal (AFEM); or recently separated veterans. Recently separated veterans are defined as those who have separated from active service within the last three years. There are no time restrictions on appointment of the first two categories of veterans. There is no length of service requirements for all three categories of veterans. The maximum grade level at which appointments may be made is GS-11. Veterans must meet all Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualification requirements.

2. Severely disabled candidates: Individuals with disabilities possessing a certification statement from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation or Department of Veterans Affairs rehabilitation counselor.

3. Transfer eligible candidates: Current Career and Career Conditional employees working for the federal government.

4.  Reinstatement eligible candidates: Former Federal employees who attained Career status on a permanent, competitive Federal appointment. If the person was a Career-Conditional, reinstatement eligibility generally applies within 3 years after separation.

How to Apply Directly:

All applicants eligible to apply directly to TYAD must file an OF-612 “Optional Application for Federal Employment”, and/or a resume. 

1. All Veterans must fill out a Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA) packet.  VRA packets may be picked up here in the personnel office at TYAD or may be mailed to you. 

2.  All Veterans must also furnish a copy of their DD-214 “Certification of Release or Discharge from Active Duty” Member 4 Copy. You may request a copy of your DD-214 from:

3. Disabled Veterans must also include a letter dated from the Veterans Administration verifying the percent of disability.  This letter may be obtained by calling 1-800-827-1000. 

4. Severely disabled individuals must also provide a letter from the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR). 

5. Transfer and/or reinstatement eligible will need to submit a copy of their most recent SF-50 action (Notification of Personnel Action) and their most recent performance appraisal.

Q:  How do I look for jobs at other government installations?

A: You can look at Civilian Personnel Online website:  http://acpol.army.mil/employment and look through the drop-down menu to the left, or the search engines to the left.

You can also use the USA JOBS Website: www.usajobs.opm.gov

1. Select -SEARCH JOBS

2. Select Location -PA-TOBYHANNA

3. Select - SEARCH FOR JOBS

4. Select a job announcement

5. Select the -HOW TO APPLY TAB at the top.

6. Select the Army Résumé Builder; Select: New User - Register

7. Once your resume is built, you must save it and submit it to the central database.

8. After you submit your resume, at the bottom of the announcement, click “apply online” and fill out the form and submit it.

9. You have just applied for that position.

Q: What are NAFI positions and How can I apply for them?

A:  The announcements can be found at http://acpol.army.mil/employment.  If you click in Search for “Jobs” and then search under “Pennsylvania” you will see them listed.

Q:  I did not see any applicable job opening for me.  How often do new jobs appear on your site?

A:  Once your resume is built in the government’s official Resumix system, we recommend going in the “Search for jobs" section at least once a week to see what new announcements have opened. If there is ever any that you wish to be considered for, please self-nominate at the bottom of each specific announcement. Remember it may take some time to build your resume in the Resumix system, so even if you do not see anything, you can build your resume.

Q:  Who should I call if I have questions on filling out Resumix?

Q: How do I make sure my resume is active?

A: Log in to Resumix at www.cpol.army.mil, preview your resume ensuring all the information you want to show is there and click the submit button.  Past resumes are not saved in the Resumix system, once you update your resume that is the information the HR Specialist will see when rating for qualifications. Q:  My resume was forwarded to the selecting official for a position, why haven’t I seen an update since?


A:  Once your resume is forwarded to the selecting official they will review all resumes and determine who they will interview.  From the time a manager receives a referral list they have a maximum of 150 days to make a selection. It is at the manager's discretion to choose from the recruitment sources available.  The selection process can take up to six months.  (TOP)


Q:  How can I keep track of the status of my application(s)?

A:  To check the status of a resume you have built on Resumix, you need to log in and there will be a link called ANSWER. At that point you can view all of the jobs you have "self-nominated" for and the status of those jobs. All resumes must be rated to determine qualifications. Then the best qualified resumes that meet the job requirements/duties are forwarded to the selecting official at Tobyhanna. Q:  Once my resume is built, how do I apply for jobs I am interested in?

A:  All job announcements are found at http://acpol.army.mil/employment. On that site you are also able to build your resume. When your resume is saved, you must go into the specific job announcement you are interested in and at the bottom there is a link to "self-nominate". Q:  For depot employees: How do I get job announcement e-mailed to my outlook or AKO account?

Go to the Tobyhanna Intranet Homepage click on the MY ALERTS tab on the top middle of the page, click the Edit button, click on the Select an Application dropdown button, select Civilian Personnel, click View, review categories and select Job Announcements, click under EMAIL ALERTS New Content, click the SAVE button—now you will receive published job announcements to your AKO email address. Announcements cannot be sent to any other email accounts outside Army employees, outside applicants must view announcements under the Employment tab on www.cpol.army.mil. (TOP)


Q:  Do you hire students during summer vacations? 

A:  Yes. Summer hiring for high school/college students is typically announced in March or April. However, if you want detailed information on what is available for students please contact the Student Temporary Employment Program at (570) 615-6381. (TOP)


Q: I am a student interested in internship/co-op information. 

A:  Applications for the depot’s SCEP program are sent directly to the Student Career Experience Program.  If you are interested in this program please send an application package consisting of the following:

(1) Cover letter requesting an internship/co-op including the specific time frame in which you would like to perform the internship/co-op
(2)  Your resume
(3)  Copy of your transcript to date, along with a copy of your fall semester course schedule (both the transcript and schedule must have your name and the school's name clearly printed on them, as from the school's database) 
(4)  Signed letter of recommendation, on school letterhead, from your academic advisor, a major professor, or the school's co-op/internship coordinator

All of the above should be consolidated into one package and sent to the Student Career Experience Program at the following address:

Q: The Resumix site is not recognizing my e-mail address

A: The applicant enters their own e-mail address so they must ensure it is correct.  The applicant should check with their internet service provider if they are having issues with their e-mail address. (TOP)


 Q: My user name and password are not being accepted.

A: You may click on the Forgot Your Password tab; this will take you to a Password retrieval page where you must enter the appropriate information. If you still cannot access Resumix you may click on the high-lighted words Next Page and enter all your information where you can submit an email to Resumix for your access information. (TOP)


Q: Do veterans receive preference for jobs?

Yes, veterans can receive preference when applying for Federal Employment. Please visit http://www.opm.gov/veterans/html/vetguide.asp for criteria and preference information. (TOP)


Q:  I am having problems with getting my Resume into the system.  Where can I get help?

A: There is a work sheet to follow in the Resumix system that details how and where to enter your information.  Resumix does time out so please click the SAVE button every few minutes or you may lose your progress. You can also complete your Resume in a Microsoft Word document and copy and paste the information into the appropriate box in Resumix. Please remember after you Preview your resume and Save you must SUBMIT. You do not need to enter an email address to send your resume to someone. Once you click SUBMIT your information will be saved. If you are still having problems getting resume into the system please contact our Job Information Center at (570) 615-7292. (TOP)


RETIREE QUESTIONS

Q:  How do I get some personnel information from the depot?  I used to work there.

A:  Once an employee is retired all his personnel information is forwarded to Office of Personnel Management (OPM).  We only keep files at the depot for about 2 to 3 years.  You will have to call OPM at 1-888 767-6738.  After you give them the information it will take about 3 to 4 weeks to receive forms from them.
