One of the services offered to retirees and spouses through the RSO is the availability of a military retiree who is a practicing attorney. The lawyer is usually available in the RSO on Tuesdays from 0930 to 1200. Normally the service provided includes simple wills, powers of attorney, estates, advice on guardianships and juvenile matters. No assistance can be provided in adult criminal cases or tax/mortgage/real estate problems. The service is of course provided free of charge.
The legal service is provided on a first-come first-served appointment basis. Although the Retirement Services Office is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday, the best time to call for an appointment with the lawyer is on Tuesday. Depending on the back log of appointments it may take 2 or 3 months from the time of call to the date of appointment. The wait is normal since this is a very popular service. Since 1997 over 500 retirees have used this service from our office.
