Teachers in the Workplace:
Tobyhanna participates in the regional "Educator in the Workplace" program. The program gives teachers a chance to interact with business, industry and community partners. Educators are exposed to an influx of new ideas, management strategies and the requirements for success in many career areas. This exchange between educators and business partners helps to make classroom learning more relevant, prepares students for success in the world of work, and learn of the current skill demands of business and industry.
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Tech Prep office is making this program available to teachers during the week of June 18. Teachers spend Monday morning in workshops at Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) and meet their employers for lunch. Tuesday through Thursday, teachers work the hours of their workplace host. Friday morning is a sharing session at LCCC. Teachers are required to submit and teach two sets of lesson plans based on their workplace experiences. Teachers document how the company uses math, reading, writing and science skills and also make note of the soft skills required for successful employment.
