Army Emergency Relief's primary purpose is to provide emergency financial assistance to relieve the distress of Army personnel, retirees, and their families, and to provide financial assistance to needy spouses and orphans of deceased Army members.

Members of the Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard can apply for emergency relief funds through the installation AER.
