Depot remains open in face of hurricane

Despite wind gusts of more than 50 miles an hour and more than 3 inches of rain, Tobyhanna Army Depot remained open this week to support the armed forces in the midst of Hurricane Sandy, one of the most destructive storms ever to hit the east coast.

Depot emergency, public works, security and safety personnel worked tirelessly ahead of the storm to ensure that the depot was ready to weather the giant storm that left millions without power.

While the gale force winds and rain pummeled Tobyhanna, the well-rehearsed team handled everything from checking for downed wires and trees to preparing emergency equipment to activating an operations coordination cell making sure that the Defense Department's premier high-tech depot was fully operational in order to produce much needed equipment for our Warfighters.
